As They Rode Along the Edge

This piece is a triple homage. The knives came to me after seeing Tony Feher's mind-blowing sculpture Magnolia - the potential violence of cutting and the clarity of cutting through, the color and pattern reference the many nocturnal color schemes and repetition of forms in Rosie Lee Tomkins’ quilts, and the title is taken from a Leonora Carrington short story metioned in Ali Smith's Artful.

The title of this piece is a lark - I wanted something warm and reassuring for this one. The blanket references Peter Hujar’s photograph Blanket in the Famous Chair which (printed off the web) has been on my studio wall for several years.
